Surah Fatiha

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Surah al-Fatihah

Introduction

Its Name

  • It is named al-Faatihah, the Opening - because it opens the Book and by it the recitation in prayer commences.
  • It is also named Ummul Qur`aan, the Mother of the Qur`aan, and Ummul Kitaab, the Mother of the Book, according to the opinion of the majority.
Narrated by  Abu Hurayrah (RA),
The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) said, ‘[the chapter commencing with] “all praises and thanks are due to Allaah the Lord of the Universe” is the Mother of the Qur`aan, the Mother of the Book, the Seven Oft Repeated Verses and the Great Qur`aan. [i.e. Ummul Qur`aan, Ummul Kitaab, Sab`ul Mathaanee and al-Qur`aanul Adheem] (at-Tirmidhee)
Ibn Jareer at-Tabaree said that it was named so because the meaning of the entire Qur`aan is summarised therein. The Arabs named anything that concisely summarises something or comprises the most important part of something Umm, or Mother.
For similar reasons it is also named al-Qur`aan al-Adheem, the Great Qur`aan.
  • It is also named Sab`ul Mathaanee, the Seven Oft Repeated Verses, because they are frequently recited and indeed recited in every rak`ah of the prayer.
  • It is also named al-Hamd, the Praise because it contains mention of hamd just as al-Baqarah is named so because it contains mention of the cow. Some scholars also gave the reasoning that al-Hamd constitutes the heart of al-Faatihah. [As-Sindee, ‘Sharh as-Sindee `alaa ibn Maajah’ [no. 3790]]
  • It is also named as-Salaah, the Prayer, because its recitation is a condition for the validity of the prayer.
  • It is also named ash-Shifaa`, the Cure, due to what ad-Daarimee reports from Abu Sa`eed (RA) from the Messenger of Allaah (SAW).
  • It is also named ar-Ruqya, the Spiritual Cure

According to the hadeeth of Abu Sa`eed (RA) reported in Saheeh Bukhaaree that after he had recited it to cure a person who had been bitten by a scorpion, the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) said to him, And what made you to know that it was a ruqya? [Saheeh Bukhaaree [Eng. Trans. 3/264 no. 476]
  • Another name of it is Asaasul Qur`aan,
Ash-Sha`bee reports from ibn Abbaas that he named it Asaasul Qur`aan, the Foundation of the Qur`aan, and that he said, “the foundation of al-Faatihah is, ‘with the Name of Allaah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.’
  • Sufyaan bin Uyaynah named it al-Waaqiyah, the Protector.
  • Yahyaa bin Abu Katheer named it al-Kaafiyah, the Sufficient, because it suffices from everything other than it but anything else does not suffice it.
The Mother of the Book suffices for other than it but nothing else suffices it. [Reported by ad-Daaruqutnee [1/322].
  • It is also named Suratus Salaah, the Chapter of the Prayer,
  •  al-Kanz, the Treasure, as mentioned by (az-Zamaksharee in ‘Kashshaaf).

Virtues of Surah Fatiha
Our prayer is incomplete without reciting Surah Fatiha.that the prayer is not valid without it.
Narrated by  ibn Abbaas (RA), Prophet Hazrat Muhammad SAW said,
Whosoever performs a prayer in which he does not recite the Mother of the Book then it is deficient, it is deficient, it is deficient, it is incomplete. [Saheeh Muslim [Eng. Trans. 1/215 no. 775]
Its importance can be revealed through following ahadeeth.
  • While the Messenger of Allaah (SAW) was sitting with Jibreel he heard a creaking sound above him. Jibreel looked up and said, “this is [the sound of] a gate that has been opened in heaven today and has never been previously opened.” Then an Angel descended through it and came to the Prophet (SAW) and said, “rejoice in the good news of two lights that have been given to you such as no prophet before you has been given. [They are] Surah al-Faatihah and the concluding [two] verses of Surah al-Baqarah. You will never recite a word from them without being given the blessings they contain.” [(Saheeh Muslim (Eng. Trans. 2/586 no. 1759)]
Narrated by  Abu Hurayrah (RA),
  • The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) said, ‘[the chapter commencing with] “all praises and thanks are due to Allaah the Lord of the Universe” is the Mother of the Qur`aan, the Mother of the Book, the Seven Oft Repeated Verses and the Great Qur`aan.’ [i.e. Ummul Qur`aan, Ummul Kitaab, Sab`ul Mathaanee and al-Qur`aanul Adheem] (at-Tirmidhee).
  • Allaah, the Glorious and Exalted said, “I have divided the prayer between Myself and my servant equally and My servant shall be granted what he asked for.” Therefore when the servant says, ‘all praises and thanks are due to Allaah, the Lord of the universe’, Allaah says, ‘My servant has praised Me.’ When he says, ‘the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful,’ Allaah says, ‘My servant has extolled Me.’ When he says, ‘Master of the Day of Judgement,’ Allaah says, ‘My servant has glorified Me.’ When he says, ‘You Alone we worship and Your aid Alone do we seek,’ Allaah says, ‘this is between Me and My servant and My servant shall have what he requested.’ When he says, ‘guide us to the Straight Path, the Path of those whom You have favoured, not of those who have incurred [Your] wrath, neither of those who have gone astray,’ Allaah says, ‘this is for My servant and My servant shall have what he asked for. [Saheeh Muslim [Eng. Trans. 1/215 no. 775]].
  • Ahmad reports from Abu Sa`d ibn al-Mu`allaa (RA) who said,
The Prophet (SAW) named while I was praying in the Mosque but I did not respond until I had completed the prayer. I went to him and he asked, “what prevented you from coming to me [earlier]?” I replied, “I was praying O Messenger of Allaah.” He said, “does Allaah not say,
‘Respond to Allaah and the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life.’ [Al-Anfaal (8): 24]
He then said, “I will teach a Surah which is the greatest Surah in the Qur`aan before you leave the Mosque.” Then he grasped hold of my hand and when he intended to leave [the Mosque], I asked him, did you not say that you would teach me a Surah which is the greatest Surah in the Qur`aan?” He replied, “yes. It is [the Surah commencing with], ‘All praise and thanks are due to Allaah.’ It is the Seven Oft-Repeated verses and the Great Qur`aan that has been given to me.” [Bukhaaree [Eng. Trans. 6/1 no.1], Ahmad [3/450]].

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

BismiLLAH i Rahman i Raheem

"In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful".

"In the name of God, most Gracious, most Compassionate"

Word Analysis:

Let's look at the deeper meaning of each word of this glorious phrase:

The term bismillah, is a combination of three words:

     بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
  •  بِ   by, for, with the aid of, through or by means of and points toward that which happens next.
     بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
  •   بِسْمِ = س - م - و :  indicates the means by which something is distinguished, would include a name, reputation,  the very essence of something, the inherent qualities and signs of the existence of something,
       بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيم
  •  اللَّهِ :  the word Allah, which is the Arabic name of the One. The Semitic roots of the word Allah extend back several thousand years to the Canaanite Elat, Hebrew El and Elohim, and Aramaic Alaha, pointing toward unity, oneness, the eternal power which includes all of existence and of non-existence.
        بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
  • .رَّ-حْ- مَٰ  = الرَّحْمَٰنِ
  •  رَّ-حْ- مَٰ   =   الرَّحِيمِ   : means mercy, affection, the word raham is used for womb of mother. Mother symbol of love, Allah subhan loves more than 70 mothers. both words rehman and rahim have same root word.

Why do we recite bismiLLAH?
  •  Bismillah is said as a blessing before eating food and other actions that are worthy of giving thanks to Allah or asking of His support.
  • One of the top priniciples of islamic beliefs. which shows the relationship between Allah and HIS slave.
  • To start with BismILLAH is among manners which are the basis of islamic belief, which Allah subhan taught  Prophet Muhammad SAW
Allah says in Surah Alaq:1
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
Recite in the name of your Lord who created.
  •  When we start anything with the name of Allah it means that we are asking for the help of Allah, for the support of Allah in that act, He is creator of every thing and everything is in HIS hand so without the help of Allah we can't go on, With the name of Allah whatever we do (ofcourse not wrong deed), a blessings and special help of Allah accompanied us in that work
  • Allah is the al-Awal first and al-Akhir the last, al-Zahir (the Outward) and al-Batin (the Inward) he knows what we do and what'll be the consequences of our deeds so with the help of HIS help we can never be failed.
  • In Quran every surah of the Quran except Surah Tauba start with BismILLAH

In the  name of
  • The phrase "In the name of"  expresses the idea with the blessings of, under the guidance of, as an instrument of, as a representative of, on behalf of, with the support of, or for the glory of Allah subhanhu ta'ala.
  • In the name of indicates that one is submitting to, honoring or glorifying that which is referred to.

Allah subhanhu ta'ala:
  • Allah the almighty, Creator, our Lord, the immortal how I  introduce Allah its too difficult, because of Allah we are here, We are just symbols of His creation, We can't even imagine him, hence He is with us always anywhere never leave us loves us more than 70 mothers.
  • As we are HIS slaves, His creation, so as true slave our priority is to please Allah, to please our Rabb. So a true muslim starts every deed of him by asking Allah's blessings, support and help.

Why just Rehman And Raheem among 99 names of Allah
  • Allah is al mighty great creator of the universe. We r nothing infront of HIM. He is jabbar and  could be jabbar with us,  yet He introduces himself with Rehman and Raheem as ALLAH"s Reham or mercy is above all of HIS other sifats subhanALLAH.
  • We say Rehman and Raheem in tasmiya because He wants us to call him with the sift(quality) of Rehman and Raheem. How merciful Allah is, subhan ALLAH  Its a great mercy of Allah if we realize it. Allahu akbar,

    Rehman and Raheem
    • The sifats of Allah rehman and raheem includes the meaning of all mercy in it. Both of these qualities collectively can only be used for Allah.
    • Rehman ir rehim is a recognition and honoring that very source of all existence, the source of all blessings, the source of all compassion, the source of all mercy  Allah who gives endlessly to us and who also responds according to our moral integrity, our harmony with all of creation and our love of Allah.

    Rehman

    •  The quality Rehman is broader and extensive in its view. Allah's mercy as Rehman is on every creation of HIS. Rehman name is only for Allah we shouldn't call others with this name
    •  It describes that aspect of the source of all creation which is endlessly radiating, endlessly nourishing, regardless of who or what is receiving the endless flow of blessings.
    •  Rehman conveys the idea of fullness and extensiveness, indicating the great quality of love and mercy which engulfs all of creation without regard to any effort or request on our part.
    •  Rehman points toward the Beneficent One whose endless outpouring of love and mercy are continually showered upon all of creation.

     Raheem
    • Raheem is, HIS special mercy comes for which we have to struggle, We need to ask for his mercy as Raheem.
    • Raheem points toward the special rehmah(mercy) and love of the Merciful One which are manifested  as the consequence of one's deeds and in response to the actions and behaviours of the recipient.
    • It is in this manner that God takes ten steps toward us when we take even a single step toward God.
    • Raheem conveys the idea of giving  reward in response to the quality of our deeds and thoughts.

What are benefits of asking the help of Allah by reciting Tasmiya.
    • It depends upon our intentions
      • We shall each be rewarded according to what  is in our heart and how we act in the world..
      • Those who say these words with thoughts of  selfish gains, or self-centered vain profit in any manner, will receive their just reward... suffering, pain and confusion. Likewise, those who truly dedicate every step of their life to the glory and service of the Ever-present One shall also receive their just reward... peace, love and beauty.
      • This phrase is truly an ideal to be expressed from the heart, an ideal to be expressed with the utmost sincerity, an ideal which leads us toward sacred purpose, the purpose for which we have been given life.

      Main purpose of Reciting BismiLLAH
      • The central idea here is that whatever we do, every step that we take, every breath that we breathe, is done for, because of, and through the essence of, the One who has created us.
      • It is not us that does the work, it is not us that makes opportunities appear, it is not us that produces fruits from every action. We alone are powerless. The Creator has given us life and has given us the ability to move and think and feel, yet we are totally dependent upon the Creator for the very essence of life itself.
      • In one simple word bismillah expresses our wonder, awe and thankfulness while it also expresses our innermost prayer that we may have the blessing of another breath, another moment of life, and that we may walk on a path of truth and understanding.
      • To say bismillah is to humbly offer one's self as a vehicle for the glory and majesty of The One.
      • Thus, the beautiful word bismillah is a magnificent reminder of our relationship to our Creator and our relationship to all of creation.

      تعوذ = ta'ooz

      أَعُوذُ بِاللّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيم

I seek refuge in Allah from Shaitan, the accursed one.

      Word Analysis

      ع و ذ  =          أَعُوذُ   ayooz means  refuge,other related words are  اعيذها, فاستعذ , معاذ, taweez etc
      ش ط ن =      الشَّيْطَان   means deep well, very far way from Allah's mercy.
رج م   =        الرَّجِيم  i.e rajeem derived from rajam means stoning, accursed, rejected.

1: REASONS WHY WE RECITE TA'OOZ? (Unlike bismillah, it's not written before any Surah)

Because Allah subhan hu Ta'ala ask us to recite it:

Allah says in Surah An-Nahl: 98
      فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
“So when you want to recite the Qur'ân, seek refuge with Allâh from Shaitân (Satan), the outcast (the cursed one)
      Shaitan is our enemy
because Shaitan is our enemy, was among Jinn. He disobeyed ALLAH because of jealousy with Man.

      Why he is our enemy?
He blames man is responsible for his rejection by Allah.
Allah says in surah Yaa-Seen: 60
“O Descendants of Adam! Did I not take a covenant from you that you shall not worship the devil? Undoubtedly, he is your open enemy.”
He doesnt want to let us achieve our destiny.
Allah created man n jinn for HIS worship n shaitan doesnt want to  let us to achieve this aim of our life.
so  he make hurdles in way of Allah enemy is always with us, he circulates with blood. Our everlasting home is in akhrat and he never wants us to succeed in getting that destiny. We'll always find shaitan at sirata-mustakim.
Quran is the way towards Allah so specially during learning Quran he makes hurdles
If we want to be safe from the enemy we should take Allah's refuge.

We'll be bothered by the hurdles n whispers of shaitan
So against that we can  take help from Allah. These hurdles are our evil thoughts, ppl fear that they will be called as fundamentalists,  maulve or conservative etc but most of these hurdles are only our thoughts.
Quran is a way towards janant n shatitan will never want us to go in jannah. he is rejected n he challenged that he'll never let  man to come towards ALLAH.

Taooz is our refugee camp against shaitan.
Shaitan  knows that once we'll learn about Allah's Book Quran, we'll get to build a relation with ALLAH n will surely be out of his reach.Only strong belief in Allah keeps shaitan away from us.

Allah says in Surah An-Nahl: 99
“Verily! He has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allâh)
He doesnt want us to remember Allah
He doesnt want us to build a relation with our creator Allah subhan

Allah says in surat alfurqan :29
      لَقَدْ أَضَلَّنِي عَنِ الذِّكْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ جَاءنِي وَكَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ لِلْإِنسَانِ خَذُولًا
“He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter
      Rasul Allah saw said:
Hadith: (According to Ibne 'Abbas) : "The devil sits clinging to a person's heart. When he remembers Allah, the devil gets lost but when he forgets, the devil puts evil thoughts (Bukhari)
      Shaitan suggests evil to man
Allah describes this in surat Fussilat: 36
       وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ هُوَالسَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
“And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.”
We dont want to be the companion of shaitan
Allah subhan says in surat Al Zukhruf:36
      وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ الرَّحْمَنِ نُقَيِّضْ لَهُ شَيْطَانًا فَهُوَ لَهُ قَرِينٌ
If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him
Another saying of Allah in  al-mujadila: 19
“Satan has overcome them and made them forget the remembrance of Allah. Those are the party of Satan. Unquestionably, the party of Satan - they will be the losers.
2: IT MAKES A GREAT DIFFERENCE IF WE WILL NOT RECITE IT
      • We shall Disobey ALLAH as its Allah's order.
      • We shall be easily trapped by shaitan.
      • We'll not be able to do good deeds and learn Quran.
      • and we'll forget the rememberance of Allah
We donot want to be the party of losers but the succeeded one. May ALLAH take us in HIS refuge from evils of shaitan n make our path easy towards Jannat al firdous ameen. :)

      Allah knows the best. :)

      MANNERS OF LEARNING QURAN

      BismiLLAH,

      Assalamoalaikum wrwb :)

Quran is a spirit and it affects the spirit of human being only when we'll give it a right.

Allah Subhan says : Those unto whom We have given the Book, who read it with the right reading (carefully study it beyond mere recitation), and then follow it as it should be followed - it is they who truly believe in it. And whoever does not believe in it this way - it is they, they who are the losers. ('Tilawat' = Recitation with understanding and then following it). (Surah Baqara:121)

Things without which learning process is incomplete:

      Book   Teacher  Student  Environment

Following external things are extremely important for better learning of Quran
      • Silence (every kind of silence inner as well as outer)
      • Listening (without listening rust can't be removed and Quran doesnt absorbed in the heart)
      • Understand and tafakur, (use the mind with full devotion not like them who used to said We listened but didnot listened)

Allah says: So when the Qur'an is recited, listen carefully to it, and keep silent   so that you may, be shown mercy.(Surah: Al-Araf:204)
      • Read aloud,
      • Write
Allah says: Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists),Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, Who has taught (the writing) by the pen, Has taught man that which he knew not. (Surah Al-Alaq:1-5)

Allah says: The Most Beneficent (Allâh)!. Has taught (you mankind) the Qur'ân (by His Mercy). He created man. He taught him eloquent speech.(Surah Rehman:1-5)

Things to keep in mind during learning Quran are:
      • Cleanliness of body and the class.
      • Pure intentions (Only for Allah)
      • Sincerity
      • Keeping check on our intentions on daily basis.
      • Keeping away from Riya (love of fame).
      • Respect the teachers and other fellows no matter at what level they are. .
      • Emphasis on completion of the homework, and should practise the lesson.
      • Should be regular in attending all lessons, for Istakamat.
      • Be patient, prayer and above all make du'a.
      How To Start Lesson:
      • First Seek Refuge in  Allah from Shaitan i.e Tauz
      • Tasmiya. Every act should be started with the name of Allah

      Why should We Learn Quran?

      Bismillah.....
      Assalam o alaikum wrwb
To understand the question we need to realize we r Muslim, A Muslim(totaly submitted to Allah subhan)
who has to obey Allah. There are two key sources of inspiration for a Muslim.
      1. Quran
      2. Hadees
      What is Quran?
Grammatically, the word "qur'an"  derived from the Arabic verb qara'a ("to read" or "to recite") which is the root. The Quran itself means a book to read, to recite.
      What is Hadees?
Hadeeth are the words, actions, approval or attributes that have been narrated from the Messenger Muhammad (SAW).

So being Muslims we need to  look towards Allah(quran) n Muhammad saw's (sunnat) in every aspect of life.

Reasons to learn Quran (according to Quran and hadees)

      • Allah wants us to learn it undrstand it n folow it, no other reason is greater than this.
Allah says: those to whom we have given the Book and they learn and they recite it observing the rights of its recitation, it is they who believe in it. And those who disbelieve in it, they are the losers.(Surah baqara:121)

      • It's Sunnat of Prophet Muhammad SAW and all the Prophets A.S.
      • After the Prophets the responsibility to spread the message of Allah has been given to Ummat e Wast the Muslims.
Thus, have We made of you an Ummat justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations, and the Apostle a witness over yourselves; and We appointed the Qibla to which thou wast used, only to test those who followed the Apostle from those who would turn on their heels (From the Faith). Indeed it was (A change) momentous, except to those guided by God. And never would God Make your faith of no effect. For God is to all people Most surely full of kindness, Most Merciful. (surah baqara:143)
      • It is necessary for every Muslim to learn its recitation, to learn its meanings, and to learn its interpretation.
”The best of you is he who learnt the Holy Quran and taught it to others.” (Bukhari)
      • Every one wants to be best Quran is the key to be the best.
      • It removes rust from the hearts.
“Undoubtedly, the heart gets rusted like metal gets rusted when water goes over it. The People asked, "How can they [hearts] be cleaned." The Prophet replied, "To remember death in abundance and to recite the Holy Quran." (Mishkat)
      • To live an ideal life according to Quran, (as Allah wants us to live).
“Whoever read the Quran and memorized it and belived its' Halal to be Halal and its Haram to be Haram [i.e., accepted it commandments of Halal and Haraam], Allah will accept the intercession for such 10 people on from him whom Hell had already become Wajib.(Tirmizi,Ibn-e-Majah)

      • It is a universal code of life, a programme of life for man designed by Allah
      • To Succeed in this life and life after death.
“O People of the Quran, do not make the Quran a pillow, that is do not be lazy and be careless, and read the Quran in the day and night like it is the Haq of Recitation, and spread it, that is, read with good voices or do not take compensation for it, and whatever is in it, reflect upon it so that you may attain success, and do not hurry in its reward because the reward for it is great (which will be given in the Akhirah). (Bahiqi)

      Assalamoalaikum warahmatullah e wabarakatohu

      Bismillah,

With the name of Allah the most merciful and beneficient I'm starting the blog to understand Quran together with my muslim brothers n sisters. I'm in  process of learning Quran but at the mean time I also want to share my knowledge and gain other's through this plateform because we'r not sure about our life n we've to do lot of work for our Deen Islam as Ummat e wast. Although I'm much confused coz I'm nothing but I hope Allah will help us in this regard. I invite you all to join me so we better understand Quran together,  Allah bless us with Istiqamat n baraka ameen.
My Lord, I ask you to expand my breast, make my task easy, undo the knot in my tongue so that my speech will become comprehensible.
